E-PSCI 138. Mysteries of Climate Dynamics

We will study the evidence in the climate record for dramatic changes in the climate system and delve into how these challenge our understanding of climate dynamics.  Case studies will include the dim early sun paradox, the Snowball Earth, Equable Climates, Glacial/Interglacial and Stadial/Interstadial transitions and ENSO.

Notes: This course fulfills the EPS sub-discipline requirement of Atmosphere(s) and Oceans. EPS 138 is also offered as ESE 138. For SB students: this course can only count as a science elective in the concentration requirements, and SB students must enroll in EPS 138. AB students may enroll in either EPS 138 or ESE 138 to meet their concentration requirements.

Recommended Prep: Mathematics 21 or Applied Mathematics 21A and 21B; Physical Sciences 12; or permission of instructor.
