GSD Executive Education Course: The Walkable City

What makes a place walkable? What do design professionals, engineers, developers, and public officials need to know if they are to make streets, landscapes, and communities that bustle with streetlife? This comprehensive two-day course addresses the most effective arguments, techniques, and tools for reshaping places in support of walking, biking, and transit. The course will focus in great depth on ten strategies for making better places, how to do a walkability plan, and a brief design charrette with a trendsetting local planning director.

Instructors: Jeff Speck, AICP, CNU-A, LEED-AP, Hon. ASLA, Speck & Associates LLC, Washington, DC; George Proakis, Director of Planning, City of Somerville, MA.
