GSD Executive Education Course: Climate Resilient Design: Buildings, Neighborhoods, and Infrastructure
Going beyond the standards set by FEMA, risk reduction for buildings, communities and their critical infrastructure is fast becoming a major focus of planning and design practice. Increasingly severe weather events have made clear the impacts on a growing scale and the need to plan ahead for resilient design adapted to climate change. The program covers climate change basics that designers need to understand in order to address projects at the scale of buildings, neighborhoods, and communities. Instructors will introduce regional infrastructure measures to reduce risk and improve resilience in the face of storm surge, increased rainfall, sea level rise, and other threats.
Instructors: Wendi Goldsmith, CEO, Bioengineering Group, Salem, MA; David Carlson, Vice-president and Director of Sustainable Development, Parsons Corporation, Washington, DC; Edward Thomas Esq., President, Natural Hazard Mitigation Association, Quincy MA; Donald Watson, Architect and Author, Trumbull, CT.
