MIT-Harvard Atmospheric Chemistry Seminar
MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Harvard University present “Secondary Organic Aerosol Production in Laboratory Chambers” with John H. Seinfeld, Louis E. Nohl Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, California Institute of Technology.
Understanding the formation of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) from the atmospheric oxidation of volatile organic compounds represents one of the grand challenges of atmospheric chemistry. This process is typically studied in laboratory chambers. Interpretation of data obtained in such chambers is complicated by the competition between the underlying chemistry and particle growth and the interaction of vapors and particles with the walls of the chamber itself. Here we will explore the implications of such interactions on interpretation and understanding of SOA formation.
