The Parliament of the World Religions was held in Cape
Town, South Africa on December 18, 1999. This
event was part of a larger three day symposium, At
Home in the Universe, organized by Cliff Matthews
for the Parliament. Participants shared a sense of the
Emerging Alliance of Religion and Ecology
at this conference. More specifically, conference participants
addressed the promises and problems of the alliance
between religion and ecology and asked what each tradition
can offer to a larger global environmental ethic. Papers
from this event will be published in a volume by Open
Court in 2001.
